I've interpreted the theme as two refugees in nature trying to escape the modern world, embracing their intrinsic nature.

The Verdanthropes are a terrestrial species of sentient hybrids between carnivorous plants and humans. Despite being highly intelligent, they reject modern life with its comforts to live a simple life; they usually reside around cities, assisting in cultivation and the preservation of natural resources.
